Web Access
The Hipax Web Access function is a module of the Hipax Cluster PACS Server. It can be used to distribute images within a hospital using the existing infrastructure, but it is also optimized for the remote access via internet (telemedicine).
In the most single case, images can be viewed on any computer, independent of the platform and of the browser. To make this, Web Access module automatically converts the images to JPEG and enbeds them into HTML pages.

The physician authentifies on the Web Server using a login. Thus, he receives access on the image and patient data related to him. The images can then be loaded to the local computer and viewed in the browser. To make this, the Web Server converts the images automatically into JPEG format and enbeds them into HTML pages. Zoom, window levelling, and selecting the following or previous image are available for image processing.
Using the additional feature Hipax Viewer Plug-ins together with the Web Access module images are not converted to JPEG, but transmitted in DICOM format. The transmission can be made lossless compressed or uncompressed. The viewer Plug-in offers additional possibilities for image processing at the local computer, e.g. dynamics, window levelling, zoom, crop, selecting layouts, print, export, etc. The system requirements to use the Viewer Plug-in are a Windows operating system and the Internet Explorer as browser. The images are then not converted into JPEG, but send as originals in DICOM format.
The Hipax Web Access function is an image viewing tool. To make diagnosis and extensive image processing please use the Hipax Workstation 4 or the Diagnostic Workstation depending on the demands.
Functions:
| Data security by login procedure and access control list | |
| Controlled access to stored image- and patient data via HTML user interface | |
| Users can be related to two different categories of user groups with differen access authorization (full control or reading only) | |
| External tickets to allocate temporary access authorization to physicians of other hospitals or medical practices | |
| Query with different parameters: patient name, patient ID, referring physician, modality, date | |
| Converting DICOM images into JPEG | |
| Simple image viewing and processing tools (window levelling, zoom, previous/next image) | |
| Communication via internet, intranet | |
| Universal use, independent of the platform and browser | |
| Using the viewer Plug-in, further image processing tools are available; the choice of the platform and browser is restricted | |
| Optionally:·DICOM conform lossless compression using the Viewer Plug-in | |
| Bandwith optimized Viewer Plug-in adapting the compression mode automatically to the capability of the network | |
| Audit: Each Web access is documented and can be reconstructed |
